Are you facing financial hardship and need support?

At Home Direct we understand that sometimes life events such as illness, unemployment or relationship breakdowns can lead to financial difficulty.

Any of our customers who are facing financial difficulty and think they may struggle to meet their debt repayments have two options. Firstly, they should talk to us as their lender as soon as possible to discuss their financial situation and we will see how we can help. Alternatively, they can make a Hardship Application to us.

In order to qualify for a Hardship Application, the borrower must meet certain criteria, apply to the lender in writing and specify the relief sought. If a borrower makes a hardship application, as a lender we must consider it and follow specific processes required by the CCCF Act.

The Commerce Commission has produced an excellent Fact Sheet which explains when a borrower may be able to apply changes to a consumer credit contract because they are facing hardship. It is designed to give both lenders and borrowers understanding of when a hardship application is appropriate and what types of changes can be made to a contract. Process to Apply for a Hardship Application

To apply for a Hardship Application, the applicant must fill out a Hardship Application form and email the completed form to The Applicant must state in their application the reason or reasons for the unforeseen hardship. It may also help to include supporting information, such as a letter advising redundancy or doctor's certificate.
